Why buy in Bucasia (and your exclusive opportunity)

BUCASIA is one of the largest suburbs in Mackay.

The coastal town, 15km north of Mackay CBD, was once just a holiday destination but today, it is a popular residential suburb where established families make the most of the relaxed coastal living.

Located just a little north of Eimeo, at the start of a peninsula that ends at Shoal Point, Bucasia biggest drawcard is the long sandy coastline along the eastern boundary. With a northerly aspect, the long ribbon of golden sands provides spectacular views of the Cumberland Islands and is protected from strong winds making it one of Mackay’s most frequented beaches and a popular nesting site for the flatback turtle.

The rest of the area is used for growing sugarcane and tropical fruit, making the locality picturesque with green rolling hills to the west and turquoise waters and golden sands to the east. Appreciating the natural beauty of Bucasia Beach is reflected in the several parks dotted around the suburb such as Admiralty Way Park, Bucasia Esplanade and Seaview Park.

The largest residential area is along the sandy beachfront of Bucasia Beach, with the second residential area sprawling along the road to Mackay. The suburb is an interesting mix of established homes and new developments. Many properties are low-set, brick and tile or rendered but there are also some that are high-set and constructed of weatherboard and it is still possible to find a few of the older, fibro holiday homes, which are likely to be replaced by flash new beachside dwellings.

Bucasia was first called Marara in 1874 but was later named Seaview. In 1938, after it was decided there were too many places called Seaview, it was renamed Bucasia after Father Pierre-Marie (Paul) Bucas, the first Roman Catholic priest in Mackay, who acquired 1,680 acres (680 ha) of land through a series of purchases in present-day Bucasia, starting in 1874.
