Helping Brendan find a home to call his own

Recently, Baileux helped local disability support service Optional Supports find a suitable home for a young man in need.

Optional Supports provides caring for people with a disability, with in-home and in the community support.

Optional Supports director Stephen Jones said they start off by supporting their clients seven days a week from 9am to 4pm.

“First, we get them comfortable with our people and work out which ones they like and want to work with.

“Then we start looking for a property where they can have support 24/7. It has to be a long-term property because most of our clients are young men.”

In this case, the young man in need was a man named Brendan.

When Stephen contacted Baileux looking for a property to rent for Brendan, Baileux director and licensee Benjamin Molineux said they happened to have a Slade Point property coming available.

“It was a perfect fit for both the tenant, support workers and the owner of the property,” Benjamin said.

Stephen said they take a property and make it suit their client.

“Usually there’s not a lot of changes. We’ll do things like memory boards on the wall, things we can hang up.”

Stephen said Brendan took a bit of time to get used to his new home.

“But we had a housewarming the other weekend and hired baby animals and once that happened he realised this is home and he has settled happily.”

This was Optional Supports’ first time working with Baileux and Stephen said it won’t be the last.

“We’ll always go to Baileux first now. Benjamin was very helpful. He couldn’t have made it easier for us.”
