Such as these…

1.  Less is more

Start by cleaning away clutter and personal items and effects.

You want the space to feel clean and inviting and allow prospective buyers to imagine themselves living in the home.

A good rule of thumb is to pack away anything that doesn’t allow the property to speak for itself and then when you think you’ve finished decluttering, take away a little more.

Pay attention to things like photographs, fridge magnets, notes, drawings, ornaments and toys. These items make the home your home. Removing them and depersonalising the home allows the prospective buyer to imagine the space as their own.

2. Rearrange to create space

Styling for sale is different from styling for living. Just as decluttering and depersonalising makes a home feel cleaner, rearranging furniture can help make spaces feel bigger.

While you might have the furniture arranged a particular way because that’s what works when living in the home, rearranging furniture to make areas feel more spacious is a quick and easy way to style your home.

3. Cheap and cheerful touches

Soft furnishings such as cushions, throws, rugs and lamps add instant brightness to a house. But replacing old or tired accessories to brighten decor doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

Look for dark corners that can be brightened by a lamp and consider a cushion, throw or new rug to freshen bedrooms and living rooms.

4. Let there be light

Brightness makes rooms appear bigger and larger which is the number one goal when styling your house for sale.

And the easiest and cheapest way to do this is to let in the light.

Whether you’ve curtains, blinds or shutters, open them all to maximise the natural light and make your house as big and bright as possible.

5. Pack down the kitchen

The kitchen is one of the biggest selling points when it comes to buying a house.

Like the rest of the tips so far, you want the kitchen to look big and bright and spacious.

Do this by firstly removing any personal effects and packing away any appliances to leave surfaces clutter-free.

If there is a table in the kitchen, remove the end chairs to open up the space and finally, make sure everything is spotless.
