Sports Health and Massage: more than a massage clinic

FIVE years ago, Melissa Ferrier decided to utilise her knowledge, training and experience from over 25 years on the sports industry to open her own business.

Hence, Sports Health and Massage was born.

Today, SH&M has two remedial masseurs providing superior remedial massage and sports therapy services at their clinic or on the field.

From remedial and deep tissue massage to sports massage, pregnancy massage and belly facials to the recently added oncology massage, SH&M provide a service for everyone from babies and children to the elderly.

We spoke to owner Melissa about what sets SH&M apart from other businesses.

1. How long has your business been servicing the Mackay region?

I opened the doors to SH&M on Feb 1, 2016.

2. What sets you apart from other massage businesses?

We do more than massage people. We get to the real cause of the problem to fix that not just where the pain is. We are relaxed yet professional in our service. My background in the sports industry has given me a very in-depth knowledge as to how athletes think and train but we do more than that. We look after everyone from babies to the more mature and even pregnant mums.

3. What would be your most-popular service?

Our Sports massage is probably our most sought after but we are the only massage therapists in Mackay to offer the belly facial and massage for pregnant women.

4. What would you like people of Mackay to know about your business?

We are here for them. Our main goal is to give them the best pain-free life they can have.

5. What’s one tip you can give people when it comes to massage and their health?

It’s the little things that we do every day that add up. Looking after ourselves doesn’t mean hours of stretching or training. Get the little things right and they will add up.
