Over the past 10 years, the business has grown and expanded to include an extensive product range of shutters, internal and external blinds and security and therefore, rebranded to Home Room.
For this month’s business profile, we spoke to Home Room managing director Karen Raymond about what sets Home Room apart from other businesses in the industry in Mackay.
1. How long has your business been servicing the Mackay region?
“The business originally was known as Designer Timber Doors, we changed our name about 4 years ago, whilst we still supply affordable quality timber doors, our business is so much more than just doors.”
What sets you apart from other home improvement businesses?
“We’ve spent the last 15 years searching for the best products for our clients, we pride ourselves on our service and collectively our staff have well over 100 years of experience in this industry.”
2. What would be your best selling/signature product?
“It’s a toss-up between our Oz Roll Slide track external blind and our Norman Australia Internal Plantation Shutters.”

3. What would you like people of Mackay to know about your business?
“We are here to help. We are a small family-owned business that will take the time to sit down with you to assist you in making selections and piecing together your vision from a broad range of suppliers and products. From doors and locks and security screens right through to internal blinds, drapes and shutters along with external blinds, shutters and awnings – we’re a bit of a one-stop-shop really.”
4. What’s one tip you can give people when it comes to home improvement?
“To go with what you love, listen to the advice of professionals but always choose the products that make you smile when you first see them.”
